Living in a Conex

Living in a conex is better than you might imagine. Conex: container express. A military word. A metal box eight feet wide, twenty feet deep, and nine feet high. Somebody built four walls, a floor, and a door out of wood. There are two bunk beds, a shelf with four roomy spaces, and a table. It’s better than you might imagine, I say, because there is also an air conditioning unit. I keep it set at twenty degrees Celcius. I still haven’t converted that to Fahrenheit; I would guess sixty-ish. It’s better than you might imagine, also, because I have electricity and internet access. I can blog from my conex. I can watch movies in my conex. I can electric shave in my conex. It’s better than you might imagine, thirdly, because it’s just me. There’s nobody else breathing down my neck or snoring or listening to stand-up comedy on their iPod and laughing at random times and scaring bojangles out of me. This brings me to my fourth and final point. It’s better than you might imagine because I’m not packed in here with twenty or fifty other people. I’ve heard stories about people trying to sneak into America by way of conex. They’re sometimes packed into these conex storage units for months at a time. Some people die. Some people get arrested. Me? I stream Youtube videos in delightfully frigid solitude. Living in a conex is better than you might imagine.

your connex sounds better than andrew and my house, luckily we are moving out of it this next week and moving in with evan into his godparents' old house. hope you get to watch sports still and tv shows. living in a connex is better than you might think, at least you don't have to go back to sharing a room with andrew like i have too...peace in the middle east (literally)

Hi,Matt...We here are all OK. Mandi got home yesterday; what a pile of STUFF! with more on the way! I am still laid off but we're doing OK.Ryan's new job is a good one though temporary. Does the conex have a latrine? It sounds neat for one person.

Hey dad, good to hear from you! No shower or toilet in my room. It's prehistoric here. It's all outhouses. They just got hot showers luckily right before we got here. I'm going to try to get some international calling minutes so I can call you. I'll send you my address via gmail.

Hi,Matt...

Hi on Nov. 12,2009 @ 1430 hours. All is well here and we are praying for you and all our service people everywhere. Just had a question: what is your brigade/division/platoon etc? I see that some soldiers set up a golf course and are having a blast!
Those light moments bring us together the right way. Keep on truckin' and have fun too!
Your fam back home.

Hey dad and fam! Golf sounds like fun. I could hit golf balls from the base, over the wall, and into the Tigris River. Funny you should mention that, the job of "event coordinator" sort of fell into my lap. So I was able to talk to my higher-ups and get some golf pros to come to he base. Sorry I haven't been posting much. I have been pretty busy. How are things back in Portland? Keep in touch!

Hi Matt...
We got your message and it was GREAT to hear from you! Tigris river:WOW! You're right there where those Master Designer-Builders made a home for us so long ago-you're living on hallowed ground!

Would'nt it be loverly if a plane landed and dropped off Tiger Woods?
Your new golf club would ROCK: you would have a real golf ball! OOOOHH
that one did hurt!!

We're a happy bunch here at home, things are going well for us, Matt.
I'm still unemployed, but we're doing alright. Justin rearranged his room to make room for that silver, or grey? TV/game player, sso that he can play games, watch movies, read books, etc. all in a warm environment.
Ryan is going to a job prospect today, so keep your fingies crossed!Mandi has possible career prospect in modeling! She got a FREE haircut, coloring and styling to look tip-top for the modeling tryout. Mom is OK, always busy here!
We love you,Lieutenant...and pray for all our troops everywhere always!
Tuesday November 17th at 0800 hours.
Until next time.
